Exploring Tagaytay

Last weekend, the team went to Tagaytay for a one day Photography lecture with Per-Andre Hoffman and a Photo Contest. Per-Andre Hoffman is a world-renowned photographer who has won countless international awards with works exhibited in museums in all corners of the globe. He also has regular publications with NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC, TIME, LIFE, NEWSWEEK and other leading magazines across the world. Being relatively new to DSLR photography, obviously we are not going to let this chance pass.

The event was sponsored by View Park Hotel, Canon, CameraHaus, Manfrotto and i-Mag photography magazine. It was held at the ViewPark Hotel in Calamba road, Sungay East, Tagaytay city. The lecture lasted for almost 2 hours after which we were briefed on the rules of the contest. Since it is just a one day event, the participants (amateurs, enthusiasts and professionals alike) were given 5 hours and 15 minutes to explore Tagaytay, search for a subject and submit a composition. Before we left, we were told to try to see things differently. Of course, that is easier said than done.

We originally planned to venture parts of Tagaytay and show a novel perspective. However, due to the time constraint (and traffic), we decided to just stay in a few areas and shoot there. We ended up shooting at the People’s Park in the Sky.

With only 20 minutes left before deadline, we submitted our entry for printing and judging.
While waiting for the final verdict, my second favorite part of the event started – Buffet Dinner!

A few hours and some more video tutorials later, it was time for the awarding.

And the winner is…    Not me!

It was a weekend well spent for the family and although we did not win, it was a fun and wonderful experience. At the end of the day, we felt that the images shared by each photographer represented their passion and creativity. It is always inspiring to be involved with artists pursuing to better their art.
